Holy knitted socks Batman! For once, it's not me being cynical!
...Well... At least not concerning the instance that I am about to blog about.
I digress, as always...
In less than 24 hours, a new year begins. For many of us, 2008 was a less than... enjoyable year, for some it's been the worst year of their lives. Illness, injury, death, pain, hate... none of these were in short supply this year. With the war, bills like Prop. 8, or even just personal issues, we've all given, and received our fair share of anger and hate.
I think 2009 is the year we should all fight to change this. Not sit around and say: "Damn, I wish things were better." No... that's not what I am talking about. I am talking about being the person you want to see others to be, fighting for the change you want to happen.
Quite recently, I was talking to a friend who has had arguably a worse year than any of us. One statement they made that stands out in my mind is: "Nothing magical is going to happen when the clock strikes 12 on January 1st."
You're wrong.
I will say, no, there will be no faery dust, a few magic words, and poof, all your troubles and hardships will be gone, but that's not the only kind of magic we have in our world.
All of our magic as completely un-magical beings lays in our belief. Our belief that we can change things. Our belief that people can be decent. Our belief that we, ourselves, can change.
Human beings are naturally lazy creatures, it's why we rely so heavily on technology. Being naturally lazy creatures, most of us are completely content with sitting around and complaining about how unfair life is, or how indecent people are, when we ourselves are sitting and doing nothing to work on our lives, and are ourselves indecent people when the time comes.
If you don't like the way your life is going... work to change it this year... don't compromise your beliefs... show kindness to someone you've never met before, just because you can.
Live, laugh, love, dream, believe, cry, dance, play... anything... everything.
Fight to make your life the life you want it to be, and help others see that there is indeed still kindness in the world.
Happy 2009 guys,
here's to hoping.

"There can be decent men, even in the most indecent of times."
